Messiah in the Bay Area
4 performances this season, checked Oct 2

Messiah in the Bay Area

Every December the Bay Area hears Handel’s Messiah in Davies Symphony Hall and Grace Cathedral, and at sing-alongs where the audience sings the choruses. Here is every performance we know of, each linked to the official page.

Which one?

For the full-scale version: the San Francisco Symphony at Davies Symphony Hall.
For the sound Handel knew: American Bach Soloists play on period instruments, in Grace Cathedral on Nob Hill.
To sing it yourself: the Bay Area’s sing-alongs usually post their dates late in the autumn; the ones we’re watching are below.

Not announced yet

These usually give a Messiah but hadn’t posted 2026 dates when we checked. We’ll add them when they do.

San Francisco City Chorus Sing-Along Messiah

Calvary Presbyterian Church, Pacific Heights
An annual December afternoon sing-along, where the audience sings the choruses and can also sing solos. It was held in early December in 2024 and 2025, but no 2026 date was posted when we checked.

Golden Gate Symphony Sing-It-Yourself Messiah

Herbst Theatre, Civic Center
A long-running San Francisco sing-along with orchestra, usually held on two December Sundays. The group's calendar still showed 2025 dates when we checked.

Ensemble Continuo Messiah Sing Along

All Saints Episcopal Church, Downtown Palo Alto
A free sing-along with chamber orchestra that raises money for Music for Minors. The last listing found was for December 2024, and no 2026 date has been announced.

Know a Messiah we’re missing?

Church choirs, community choruses and college ensembles put on Messiahs all over the city. Give us the link to the official page and we’ll check it.
