Before you meet someone new

Meeting safely

Most people you’ll meet through Rhapsodate just want to play or hear music. A few simple habits keep it that way, for you and for them.

Meet in a public place

Play somewhere public the first time: a practice room you book, a music school, a church or community hall, a library room, or the concert itself. Our practice rooms list has places that rent by the hour.
Don’t go to a stranger’s home, and don’t invite someone you haven’t met to yours. Wait until you’ve played together somewhere public and you’re comfortable.
Tell a friend who you’re meeting, where, and when you expect to finish.
Get there and home on your own, and keep your instrument and bag with you.

Before you meet

Agree what you’ll play, where, and for how long. Bring your own part.
Keep your phone number and address to yourself until you’re comfortable sharing them.
Be wary of pressure to meet somewhere private, to change the place at the last minute, or to skip ahead to a home rehearsal.

If you pay or charge

Agree the fee, what it covers and what happens if someone cancels, in writing, before you meet.
Don’t pay in advance someone you haven’t met. Never pay with gift cards, wire transfers or cryptocurrency.
Watch for overpayment scams: someone sends more than you agreed and asks you to send back the difference.
Rhapsodate doesn’t take payments, hold money or check rates. Any arrangement is between you and the other player.

At concerts

Meet at the venue, a little before the start, and buy your own ticket from the presenter.
You can always leave at the interval.

If something feels wrong

Leave. You don’t owe anyone a rehearsal or the rest of a concert. Tell us: report the person in the app, or write to support@rhapsodate.com. In an emergency, call 911.
We don’t run background checks. A verified badge only means we checked someone’s musical background.

Find your music partners

Say what you play and what you’d love to play, then find players or concert company.
