Messiah in New York

Every December New York hears Handel’s Messiah in great halls, Gothic churches and community auditoriums, sung by professional choirs, amateur choruses and, at the sing-alongs, the audience itself. Here is every performance we know of, each linked to the official page.

Which one?

To sing it yourself: pick a sing-along. You sing the choruses with the choir while soloists take the arias. Bring a vocal score if you have one.
For the sound Handel knew: look for period instruments. Trinity Church’s performances use the Trinity Baroque Orchestra, Fifth Avenue Presbyterian plays on historic instruments, and TENET performs with Juilliard415.
For the full-scale version: the New York Philharmonic at David Geffen Hall and the big choral societies at Carnegie Hall.
Away from Manhattan: the Brooklyn Chamber Orchestra in Brooklyn Heights and the Queens College Choral Society in Flushing give their own.
